Celebration of Community Based Organizations (CBOs) Day 

Out of heartfelt wish to bring community based organizations (CBOs) on board for all to witness their concrete roles in development; JeCCDO organized a CBO Day on December 19, 2014. The event was held at Bishoftu town in the compound of JeCCDO Opportunity for Change Training Center. 

It was a very festive event involving exhibition of CBOs engagement and positive impacts they brought in the lives of vulnerable children as well as community elders, unemployed youth and women, commercial sex workers and other community members in need of support to become self-reliant.

Present were W/ro Fentaye Gezahegn, Charities and Societies’ Agency Deputy Director (Guest of Honor), Ato Tesfaye Abebe, Mayor of Bishoftu town, W/ro Zewdinesh Assefa, Bishoftu Town Women and Children’s Affairs Office Head, Mrs. Stina Karltun, Counsellor (Bilateral Development Cooperation, Sweden Embassy), W/ro Meaza Kitaw, Chair Person of JeCCDO’s Board, Dr. Meshesha Shewarega, Director of Consortium of Christian Relief and Development Association (CCRDA), Representatives of CBOs, other invited guests, Ato Mulugeta Gebru, Executive Director of JeCCDO and staff members of the Organization.

The guest of honor and other invited guests extended their warm appreciation during the visit and in their respective speeches for tangible roles of CBOs in development and congratulated JeCCDO for its successful alignment with them. Particularly, W/ro Fentaye Gezahegn mentioned that development approach of working in partnership with CBOs is in perfect harmony with the government policy that pursues poverty reduction with local effort. Other Representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations too promised to support JeCCDO-CBO partnership to reduce poverty.

Panel discussion was also held on essence and historical emergence of CBOs, their contribution in development, their challenges while operating as development actors and ways forward to create conducive environment for them to contribute more for development.

Finally, Ato Mulugeta Gebru delivered a closing remark extending his warm gratitude to the guests who dedicate their whole time to attend the event. He also acknowledged them for their promise to join hands with CBOs and JeCCDO for the betterment of disadvantaged communities.
