Collaborative Effort with CBOs

Supporting the efforts of the grassroots institutions/CBOs to achieve improved living conditions of OVCs is the central mission for JeCCDO. Accordingly, JeCCDO has been implementing different projects through CBOs with the aim of making it possible for local communities to take ownership and lead of the efforts to reduce the vulnerability of OVCs and improve their living conditions.

An epitome of such joint initiative is the recently launched Sweden International Development Agency (SIDA) funded project entitled “A collaborative initiative of JeCCDO and 40 CBOs on Community Based support for OVC”. The project is being implemented in four Regional states (Oromia, Amhara, Somali and SNNP) and two City Administrations (Dire Dawa and Addis Ababa), and runs for 3 years, from 2014-1017.

The goal of the Programme is to increase wellbeing and realization of entitlements of OVCs by reducing vulnerability among them and improve their living conditions in the target areas. The following are the results expected of the project:

  • 1 Improved OVC’s access to education through alternative basic education program and support to formal education.
  • 1 Improved access to basic human needs of OVC such as shelter, clothing and medical care.
  • 1 Strengthened income/economic capacity of OVC guardians and OVC headed households.
  • 1 Increased access to employment for orphans and vulnerable youths (OVY);
  • 1 Improved the wellbeing of vulnerable children and children with disabilities.
  • 1 Strengthened capacity of partner CBOs.

The kinds of CBOs partnered with JeCCDO to run this project are those that have legitimacy, defined constituency and commits to full responsibility and accountability over management of their respective projects.
